Beginners Workout
Yoga is one of the great treasures of the East. It exercises the body, improves concentration, and controls the restless mind. The benefits of yoga have been so well documented that even Western skeptics have embraced it. Today some consider it a modern form of exercise, but yoga is actually an age-old science that has proven to be an extraordinary means to achieve physical and mental health.
Beginners Workout is designed for beginners and for those who haven't exercised for a while. It's also good for those who want to take a break from their more strenuous workouts but still want to exercise.
On this tape you will learn easy ways to:
• Loosen stiff joints
• Strengthen your abdominals
• Firm your buttocks
• Calm and tone your nerves
And the last asana on the tape is Yoga Nidra, a very effective way to achieve complete relaxation.
Wai Lana, your guide through the various asanas, has been practicing yoga for over twenty years. She is one of the most well known yoga teachers in the world today. Her daily yoga TV shows are regularly watched by millions of people around the world on five continents, including in the United States, where her shows appear on many PBS stations around the country. Wai Lana Yoga: Toning Workout. Reviewed by Ginger Oppenheimer. "If someone is new to yoga or trying to find a soothing way to release stress, Wai Lana's easy toning yoga workout video might be a nice way to start out," said Oppenheimer. She found Wai Lana's voice calming and the settings appealing. "She explains what she is doing through every step, the camera work helps clarify what she is saying, and the progression of the workout is logical.”

Wai Lana, who has her own show on PBS, brings her unique style of yoga to a new video made especially for beginners. The moves aren't exactly yoga poses you may have seen before; they are more like poses mixed with stretches and toning moves.
The production quality on this video is top-notch. For each asana, or pose, the camera moves to a different scene—sometimes it's Wai Lana in front of a waterfall, sometimes it's on a beach, sometimes it's in a desert. Each time, of course, she's in a different outfit.
The moves are not challenging, but they require some flexibility. In one, she sits on the ground, with one leg bent (foot flat on the floor) and one lifted off the floor at a 45-degree angle; she then bends at the waist so her hand touches the heel of her extended foot, making for a tough hamstring stretch. Other moves require some endurance, such as a series of slow crunches she does near the end.
Wai Lana is known in the yoga world for her soothing voice and her great instruction. Here, she doesn't waste time moving from pose to pose or overexplaining things, which means that in just 35 minutes you get a lot done.
The video ends with a three-minute relaxation section. The screen shows beautiful scenery, and you listen to soothing music while you try to "quiet your mind."
The DVD holds some great extras. You can view the asanas one at a time and learn a little more about them, such as hints on how to do them correctly and what each does for your body. You can also put the asanas in a different order to customize your own workout.

Soothing Yoga: Wai Lana Yoga: Beginners Workout. Reviewed by Sue Hansen, 43, of Poulsbo.
"This is an easy and good introduction to yoga for someone who has a limited background like me," said Hansen. ... Hansen thought her voice was calm and soothing and her explanations slow and thorough. "She encourages you to go at your own pace and she showed or mentioned alternatives if the poses were too intense. She also mentioned the area of the body each position focused on, such as kidneys, abdominals, or the back." Hansen said the name of each pose displayed in the upper corner was helpful and the music was peaceful ... Overall, Hansen said, "I enjoyed this video, and it is one I would do again."

I am so thrilled to be able to use the tapes in the evenings and play the CDs at work all day. I feel so wonderful all the time! I don't wake up with headaches and stiff necks any longer, I don't eat as much, walk much taller ... okay, I'll stop, but you take care of that precious lady for us all, okay? The tapes and CDs are absolutely fabulous.
These tapes are so cool and easy, I just pop them in nearly every night to unwind ... my stomach has gotten smaller and the stretching is even showing in my hips.
This year I'll be 50 years old, and more and more people are telling me that I sure don't look it ... I guess it's the new outlook. My gratitude to you always for allowing me the pleasure of your tapes. They are the only ones I have ever not only watched but really do the asanas as well!
I don't exercise, sweat, or have my attention held for any length of time. I have gone through all the tapes and am beginning them again. They are fabulous and totally do-able ... even for me! Thank Wai Lana for all the wonderful gifts she brings to whomever happens to see her. She is truly a blessing to all who see her.

Suitable for Grades 9 and Up—India's ancient art of yoga was designed to soothe the mind while relaxing, stretching, and bending the body in a less strenuous workout. Wai Lana's Toning Workout goes through 15 different exercises to tone and strengthen. In this beginner-level video, she concentrates on the proper way to breathe when warming the entire body ... The video itself is well produced, presenting a safe, healthy, and moderate program for youth.

I was very impressed with the music on the CD. It was pleasant and certainly communicated spiritual principles. As for the video, I have no doubt Wai Lana is a competent and knowledgeable instructor. The production was beautiful and professional, and I would certainly recommend it to those who are interested in yoga.

Color and beautiful scenery dominate the set of this relaxing yoga video. International yoga instructor Wai Lana practices poses standing on beautiful Asian rugs in the middle of epic scenic spots such as above arroyos in the desert, next to seaside surfing beaches, and on rocky bluffs. Tinkly Asian-inspired New Age music, Wai Lana's own Yoga Music of the Heart, drifts in and out with the ambient sound of waves and wind. Running at about an hour, the video offers a bit of yoga history, thorough explanation of breathing techniques, 15 different postures, and a long relaxation segment at the end ... She doesn't intimidate the viewer by flaunting her flexibility. She also allows plenty of time for feeling the effects of stretch and exercise and explains the benefits of each as well. The toning promise of the video is serious: exercises work out the butt, back, thighs, and stomach.
